Artistic Activities |

Music Classes
During music activities, children play percussion instruments and sing songs exploring
music from Carl Orff to The Beatles. Through games and exploration of their
surroundings, students develop their musical ear. Children who already play
music instruments will be encouraged to play in a chamber music group. This part of the workshop will show students that there is a whole musical world awaiting them to be explored. Music
is also blended into other activities making part of the final show. |

Art Classes
During art classes students illustrate the stories and plays written during playwriting class. Everyone works at his/her own pace, refining skills, and developing personal expression. Children create, draw, paint and build the set for a theatrical show. They also illustrate the poster and draw the flyers for the final shows. Paintings and artwork done during the program will be on display at public places during the year, such as The Children Museum at Holyoke, public libraries, music schools, etc. |

Playwriting Classes
Through structured writing exercises, students work to discover their inner
voice providing an extraordinary opportunity for the expansion and exercise of the playwriting craft, exploration of establishment and alternative writing forms, collaboration and interaction with other young dramatists. The written pieces may be shared during lunch with the other students.
Selected pieces are then presented to the public. Some of them will be
illustrated during art class, printed as a book and displayed in public. |

Drama Classes
Students perform in presentations including: oral interpretation; monologues; scenes; storytelling; and mime. They learn and develop confidence in building and sustaining a role; use of gesture and speech to communicate; and responding spontaneously in interaction. Students are also introduced to the art of stagecraft as they create make-up, costume and set designs. At the end of each day, students and faculty blend all the day’s activities into drama exercises, games, scenes and improvisations, and participate in rehearsals for the final show. |

Dance Classes
Dance education begins with an awareness of the movement of the body and its
creative potential. Students become engaged in body awareness and
movement exploration that promote a recognition and appreciation of self and
others. While developing a diverse vocabulary of body movement with an emphasis on Flamenco and Hip-hop dance, students
interchange between these different styles through choreography and
progress towards performing for the community.
This work is later woven into the final performance. |

Video
To look at the basic parts and functions of a video camera; examine composition and camera movement; learn how
to put together sequences from initial storyboard to final sequence; perform in-camera editing; provide
constructivefeedback; complete a short, final piece in groups or as individuals. |

|
Photography
Teens will be exposed to workshops of light, composition, color and white and black shooting.
They will work with digital camaras and edited their photos on computer. |
