The kids got right back into their creative pursuits right where they left off. In the art classes, kids continued to work on their cardboard 3-D animals and began to attach the legs and decorate their animals. When asked, one girl said that she had made a tiger and proceeded to play with it while a tinfoil person was riding on top. It was great to see that the kids were all interacting well with each other. They were all happily chatting with one another while working on their projects. The two older groups continued with their plays. Group 2 is doing a play titled "Castle in the Clouds" while Group 3 is performing "A Piece of Pie" by Pancho Gutstein. The kids really got into it today, so much that one kid yelled, "theater, theater, its time for theater!" They worked on staging the play and learning their lines and evoking emotion. Many of the kids were natural actors and they had a great time with that. The little kids imagined they were animals for the book Papagayo that they're going to be performing and acted out the storybook. Some animals included bunnies, coyotes and raccoons. At recess everyone was so excited for water games since it was Tuesday. Everyone had so much fun playing outside with the water and getting sprayed by the hose, playing in the mini pools, throwing water balloons and using the water slides. It was a blast and a perfect refresher in the middle of the hot day. In the afternoon the creativity continued. During storytime, as the younger kids settled into their places on the ground with blankets and pillows, they were just starting to get tired from the water games-some even still had wet hair- as they listened to the story of Brin Bixby. In fashion, using the tinfoil figures the kids made in art class, they began cutting out clothing from fabric and designing their figures. In blacklight, the kids were once again thrilled to be able to see how certain items glow in the dark. They performed the wave and everyone cooperated together. During the writing portion, the kids were all busily creating their own projects while discussing among themselves. The main topic of todays discussion was Disney movies, especially Frozen, and the kids (and counselors) went on and on about their favorite Disney films and songs. Overall, it was a really good day and the kids are working nicely with everyone and are having a great time learning about the arts and getting to make their own art and fun. | |

It was a great first day! Very productive and the kids had a lot of fun being creative and learning. Here is what went on:
In Music: The music group was practicing using their voices and learning singing techniques through specific exercises. For the next day, they are bringing in their favorite song and something to play music with. Fashion: The fashion group played “Project Runway”, where the kids would dress up a “model” in fabric, in which they all looked very fashionable. They then designed their own t-shirts on paper and colored them. Art: The younger kids drawing on black paper with neon colors and took inspiration from a storybook where they drew nature and night animals. Group 2 used cardboard to make animals. They would draw their animal on the cardboard, then cut out the body and attach legs and other features to it. Group 3 was drawing on white paper. They were mostly drawing nature and trying to incorporate tin foil. Theater: Group 2 had the counselors read aloud a play while they listened. Group 1 started out by playing a game called the “name-animal” game. Where each kid would say their name and their most favorite or least favorite nighttime animal. Then they read aloud the story Papagayo and started talking about how they would turn that into a play. Group 3 read aloud a play and each person picked which character they would like to be. Dancing: The kids got to pick which dance they wanted to begin learning today- either flamenco or “funk”/hip-hop style. Each type of dance was first demonstrated by the teachers. Those who picked the flamenco got to put on dancing heels and festive skirts to become flamenco dancers. Those who chose the funk dance got to learn moves to upbeat music and had a lot of fun with it. Blacklight: Some kids got to experience blacklight. They put on white gloves and had fun seeing what glowed in the dark. Writing: Some kids focused on Mad Libs, and created funny stories through that. Others developed their own writing in their personal booklets. Then some crafts concluded the day. For Lunch and Recess, the kids were able to have fun on the playground and enjoy the nice day outside. Summer is here and with it lots leisure times in your hands.

Hi Multi-Arts friends and families! Today we are here to discuss two exciting new developments for Multi-Arts: family art workshops being offered around the Pioneer Valley and the potential for a new camera to film activities and performances at our camps and other events. On April 13th, Multi-Arts held a workshop at the Jones Library for families to create animals together using cardboard, markers, and their imaginations. Over 70 people joined in to make this afternoon a huge success. Parents and children were able to enjoy the creative process together and afterwards kids played with animals they made themselves. We will be hosting more workshops for families around the Valley in Holyoke, Belchertown, and Hadley. Like our Facebook page and stay tuned for more information! Multi-Arts has been received a generous offer of fund-matching in order to purchase a state of the art video camera to film our many shows and art activities. It is a very specialized, high quality camera that can film all of our programs, including our upcoming black light shows. We would LOVE to have the opportunity to implement this wonderful technology in our programming. For every dollar you donate, "Bio Products" will match your gift by 200%. We still need $300 and have five days left to raise it. Help us now! The deadline is May 15. In art class, campers sorted all of their art projects from the week and finished up projects that weren’t already finished. Groups 2 and 3 made big whale paintings that will be displayed in the Jones Library! In fashion class, campers finished their tin foil people and their designs for bracelets. In theater class, they performed the plays they were working on yesterday and the day before. Group 3 performed a play for the rest of the camp. They also made pompoms, did origami, read stories, and did blacklight games. Some of the campers are already looking forward to doing Multi-Arts again this summer! Today campers made people out of aluminum foil and tape, wrote stories about superheroes and gummy bears (among other things), and made stencil paintings. In acting class, they continued working on their plays from yesterday, wrote new ones, and did group improvisation. They also did blacklight games, danced flamenco, learned how to make paper cranes, and continued working on their castle projects. The children are looking forward to tomorrow, but seem to be a bit sad that tomorrow is the last day. Today Wednesday campers continued working on their mobile project, adding glow-in-the-dark paint, and made collages with pastel backgrounds and black-and-white paper. For fashion class they designed t-shirts based on children’s book illustrations. In theater, they wrote new plays, some of which were the sequels to yesterday’s plays. During crafts, they made castles out of paper and decorated them with marker drawings. They also wrote stories, played with black lights and costumes, and drew pictures. Day 1 Today was the first day of camp for Spring 2014! In fashion class, campers learned basic fashion terminology and then took turn designing and modeling outfits. In art, some campers did paintings and others made three-dimensional cardboard animals that can be hung on the wall. For theater, they wrote their own short plays and began rehearsing for them. During craft time, they made necklaces and other small projects with paper, ribbon, string, feathers, and glitter. They also had dance class, outdoor time, and breaks for snack and lunch. Everyone seems to be looking forward to continuing his or her various projects tomorrow! Day 2 Today campers continued working on projects that were begun on Monday and tackled new ones. They solidified their ideas for the plays they wrote yesterday, rehearsed, and performed them for the rest of the group. The three-dimensional cardboard animals were painted and a new project, a large cardboard mobile, was begun. Some kids also made bird hand puppets out of cardboard, feathers, and paper. In fashion class, campers made people out of pipe cleaners or foil and clay and dressed them in colorful clothes. In the afternoon campers danced flamenco, funk, and did mime. In writing class with Xinef they wrote new fascinating stories. |
