Welcome Fort River!!!
We have so many amazing student writers at Fort River School
(Amherst, MA)! I’m very proud
of the way our students think about the impact they want to have on their readers, make very intentional word
choices, and show their creativity. They are truly becoming powerful writers. It is a special privilege to
have some of our writers featured in this new e-magazine.
Congratulations to all those selected!

Pluto
By Fred (Ruth) Goldstein-Rose
Student of Linda Yeh
Today I went to Pluto
And wow! It's very weird.
The people there have purple skin and
rainbow ten inch beards.
Their hair is never on their head.
Instead it's on their nose.
Their eyes shrink when they're mad at you
Their feet have ninety toes.
Their stomachs are all mushy
like chewed up dirty gum.
And when they eat dried butterflies they're sure to
say, "Yum, yum."
When they get a little cut, they do a little dance.
Playing tennis, pool, or golf are only done by ants.
Even though they have no ocean,
they really like to surf.
But anyway
I really think
It's better back on earth.
"Opposites"
by Franklin A. Kostas
Student of Roger Wallace
...It was hard to believe it, but this plane has two kitchens, one on the first,
and one on the second floor. The room was very nicely furnished, with a really soft sofa, a few chairs, a king-size bed, and a piano...

"What I would be in the Middle age"
by Manuela Rojas
Student of Mary Fournier
I would like to be the QUEEN so I could rule and boss people. Now that would be fun, and also I could get whatever I want when-ever I want. Like right now I want a Webkin.
But I'll be Queen and if I want one thousands dollars (I wish..), I'll get it.
And when I want new shoes I'll get them, because I'm Queen.
But when I'm the Queen I do not have to work one-single-bit. That would be awesome...
And I can do whatever I want.
And I would get all the Money in the world but I could get everything Free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I would live in a Mansion, not what your are thinking,
a BIGGER , not BIGGER, HUMONGOUS. I mean it. And my humongous room would be Clean.
For! once! in! a! life! time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Winter inspirations...
...by 1st grade children of teacher Laurie Hickson
By Jason: "
My favorite winter is today because I love this winter and all of the days of winter.
I love school, because I get to play in my favorite winter because of my teacher.
We play and play and play and play and play and play."
By Natalya: "My mom has a new baby. I got to hold the baby. I am faithful to my sister.
She has brown eyes. I got to hold her today and I got to feed her with bottles. She fell asleep."
By Mina: "
My friend and I went sledding. After that we made a snow fort and then we went
into the house and we had hot chocolate. Then I had to go home to my house and I ate supper and then I went to bed."
Coyote and the Turquoise
by Olivia Clarkewright, 2nd grade, Student of Sandy Davis
...Working Rattlesnake jumped up like a cricket on an autumn morning. “I must tell everyone!”
She said as excited as a newborn puppy. As soon as Working Rattlesnake scurried out of the room, Coyote
slumped down against the wall. “Why did I steal it?!” Coyote said clenching his fists...

My Mom Carrie
By Lucas Willocq, 2nd grade, Student of Sandy Davis
This is my mom named Carrie. I picked her because she is kind, nice and sweet.
She is very creative. She is kind because every year she knits stuff for “Felt for Cure”, plus she
knitted a blanket for me. She bakes me chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin bread, yum! She helps
me do my homework. When she helps me, I feel so special. I don’t need to worry about anything
because my mom, Carrie, will always be there for me.
