Multi-Arts empower and inspire children to explore their own creativity and develop a lifelong love of the arts.
The Program
Multi-Arts Program is an innovative arts program for children ages 4-5, 5- 6, 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Students work with professional artists in an environment that is rich in highly specialized teaching and individualized attention to create original theater productions integrating the many artistic activities in which the children work during the workshops:
theater, music, art, funk dance styles, mime, fashion, and creative writing.
During eight weeks throughout the months of June to August, about twenty counselors, teachers and CITs, work together with an average of 200 children, ages 4 to 12, divided by age in small groups of 15. They come from many and diverse communities in the Pioneer Valley, immersing them in a multi-arts educational experience aimed toward production of original performance/visual art. The children will attend intensive hands-on classes. An exceptionally low student/teacher ratio ensures a rich educational/cultural experience for every student.
Each workshop culminates in a public presentation of the children’s work: an art exhibit and a multi-media performance integrating music, dance, art, writing, video, photography and theater, reaching 400 or more children and their families in the Pioneer Valley. The children’s art will become part of Multi-Arts’ permanent exhibitions at the Children’s Art Gallery in Northampton, Holyoke Public Library, Primos, Valley Medical Center and at our rotating exhibit at public libraries, music and performing art schools, local churches, art walks, etc.
Shows created in the season are broadcasted on local television throughout the coming year and the children’s art work is displayed on the Multi-Arts website, and in publications of books that contain art and writing created by Multi-Arts students.
Program Achievements
There is no clearer gauge of our success than the creative material produced by the students during the program and the generous publicity and venues that local communities have provided for our work. These accomplishments serve as a touchstone for the Multi-Arts Program.
They include:
Demographics and Enrollment Statistics
Aesthetic and Educational Philosophies
Evaluation
