It was a great first day! Very productive and the kids had a lot of fun being creative and learning. Here is what went on:

In Music: The music group was practicing using their voices and learning singing techniques through specific exercises. For the next day, they are bringing in their favorite song and something to play music with.

Fashion: The fashion group played “Project Runway”, where the kids would dress up a “model” in fabric, in which they all looked very fashionable. They then designed their own t-shirts on paper and colored them.

Art: The younger kids drawing on black paper with neon colors and took inspiration from a storybook where they drew nature and night animals.

Group 2 used cardboard to make animals. They would draw their animal on the cardboard, then cut out the body and attach legs and other features to it.

Group 3 was drawing on white paper. They were mostly drawing nature and trying to incorporate tin foil.

Theater: Group 2 had the counselors read aloud a play while they listened.

Group 1 started out by playing a game called the “name-animal” game. Where each kid would say their name and their most favorite or least favorite nighttime animal. Then they read aloud the story Papagayo and started talking about how they would turn that into a play.

Group 3 read aloud a play and each person picked which character they would like to be.

Dancing: The kids got to pick which dance they wanted to begin learning today- either flamenco or “funk”/hip-hop style. Each type of dance was first demonstrated by the teachers. Those who picked the flamenco got to put on dancing heels and festive skirts to become flamenco dancers. Those who chose the funk dance got to learn moves to upbeat music and had a lot of fun with it.

Blacklight: Some kids got to experience blacklight. They put on white gloves and had fun seeing what glowed in the dark.

Writing: Some kids focused on Mad Libs, and created funny stories through that. Others developed their own writing in their personal booklets.

Then some crafts concluded the day.

For Lunch and Recess, the kids were able to have fun on the playground and enjoy the nice day outside.
